NFTs in the world of fashion: can the future of the industry be redefined?

NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) are unique digital identifiers that allow digital content - like audio, video and photos - to be authenticated and registered on blockchains of cryptocurrency such as Ethereum. Solana also supports NFTs.

NFTs are most often employed to facilitate the sale and ownership of digital content, as they represent digital rights associated with assets like files.

Tokens of this kind are created from digital objects such as art, GIFs and videos, collectibles (such as virtual avatars), music memes and collectible cards domain names. Their application can be vast but few people know that tokens like these can help immerse oneself into fashion culture.

Moda & NFTs

In 2021, NFT craze was in full bloom. Google searches for NFTs are on the increase while sales of $2.5 Billion have already been achieved in just half of 2021 compared to $13.7 Million just one year prior. No surprise then that fashion companies are adapting and digitally transforming themselves - brands using NFTs as well as Blockchain technology to engage, verify and connect with customers around the globe using NFTs and Blockchain tech solutions to do just this.

Why the Interest?

Like no two items are alike, no two NFTs will ever be identical either. NFTs have the potential to revolutionise how brands incorporate non-fungible tokens in their marketing and design strategies.

Experts explained that fashion NFTs have grown increasingly popular because we are witnessing the birth of digital fashion -nft development much like witnessing any art form at its beginning stages. Imagine purchasing your first cool NFT only to find that in 10 years' time it has increased exponentially in value! Owning one would be like owning a piece created by an emerging artist!

NFT technology's tremendous buying power makes it attractive to fashion brands and consumers alike.

People spending millions on NFTs have spent an extraordinary amount, from virtual sneakers to digital handbags (such as RTFKT Studios'). While it is too soon for an analysis of this phenomenon, it is evident that people are excited by digital fashion.

Moda digital

The Metaverse, also known as an online world in which people interact using digital avatars, is where digital fashion takes shape. Mark Zuckerberg's Metaverse provides us all with digital avatars who work virtual environments, engage in virtual social obligations, and wear virtual clothing.

Comparing digital fashion to something so unpredictable as non-fungible coins makes the craze easy to grasp. You can see this phenomenon at work when designing avatars for video games like The Sims; since nudity is prohibited within such programs, your "virtual" self must dress up for each scene - digital fashion being your answer!

Digital fashion encompasses more than clothing for avatars; it is an emerging subculture of fashion that includes digital design, modelling real clothes in virtual environments, uploading both physical and virtual designs onto Blockchains (so they can be sold as non-fiat currencies) - and this all happens within real people!

Brands who embrace digital and NFT fashion should anticipate success in doing so.

Many brands have joined this new fashion trend, but which are the most active?

1.RTFKT : Starting in 2019, RTFKT established itself as a leader in virtual sneaker sales. Starting 2021, they embarked upon a partnership project with 18-year old crypto artist "Fewocious", known for his popularity during that era.

Fewocious has created three virtual sneakers which bidders can "try on" via Snapchat before participating in an auction to buy. The winner could also receive the actual pair in real life; 600 pairs were sold within 7 minutes for revenues totalling over $3.1million!

2. Gucci : was the first luxury brand in the world to embrace non-financial trusts (NFTs).

Alessandro Michele of Italian fashion house Alessandro Michele created his New Fashion Fair (NFT) not with physical products but instead a four-minute movie inspired by their "Aria" collection which sold for $25 billion at Christie's auction house.

3. Louis Vuitton : To commemorate their 200th anniversary on August 4, Louis Vuitton launched "Louis the Game", an innovative mix of fashion and technology where players must navigate Vivienne Westwood's dollhouse to win.

On the 200th anniversary of the fashion house, players travelled around the globe in an attempt to collect 200 candlesticks as souvenirs of this remarkable milestone.

4. Overpriced Hoodie : The world's self-declared first NFT fashion brand created a hoodie with a code to scan that allows its wearers to show off their NFT accounts. This jumper can be purchased through BlockParty for $26,000 USD.

5. H&M : H&M unveiled its inaugural virtual fashion collection through Dress-X, an online clothing platform. This initiative represents H&M's desire to lead in fashion by offering virtual fashion access for customers. According to Swedish fashion giant H&M, this initiative reflects their "values as an inclusive retailer by creating looks suitable for all body types regardless of size, gender or shape."

The line includes an XL shimmery jacket, an orange knitted sweater with glowing lights and glowing baggy trousers.

Customers can only get a glimpse of the new collection by entering a contest in their online store, where they will be asked to name one out of three products. They will receive a customised digital look as well as an animated image they can post on social media.

These looks are only available as prizes in contests and will never be manufactured or sold, eliminating packaging and shipping expenses.

Conclusion of Article :

What will the future look like? Will we be able to use digital NFT fashion for virtual meetings and the metaverses of social networks like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok?

Fashion in the NFT can be an extremely lucrative opportunity for those willing to explore this path. Only time will tell whether collaborations bear fruit.
